Weighted Grade FAQs
Questions about category percentages, syllabus weights, and composite course averages.
Q1How is a weighted grade calculated?
Multiply each category's average grade by its assigned decimal weight (e.g. 30% = 0.30). Add all products together. If the category weights total 100%, this sum is your final weighted grade.
Q2What is the difference between weighted and unweighted grades?
In an unweighted system, every point or test carries equal weight. In a weighted system, specific categories (like Exams or Projects) count for a predetermined percentage of your overall course grade regardless of how many individual points they contain.
Q3What happens if my syllabus weights do not add up to 100% yet?
Midway through a semester, you may have completed only some categories. To find your current standing, divide your current weighted score sum by the sum of completed weights. Our Weighted Grade Calculator automatically handles this normalization.
